Polar Shades Sun Control (PSSC) is a Licensed Contractor and Manufacturer in the state of Nevada. A family owned business that was started in 1995 by its current owner, Steve Mevius, PSSC is now the largest manufacturer in the state of Nevada for sun control products. No small feat when you consider that Las Vegas has over 300 days of sunshine per year and providing shade is more for survival than just a passing whim.

When Steve started this company he saw that there was a basic need that just wasn’t being met. People were constantly complaining about the excessive heat and finding a good, quality solution was nowhere in sight. He decided to do his own research and set out to find the best quality material available and design a device that would allow people to take control of their sun issues. What he found was that the things he was looking for weren’t even available. Since the things he needed didn’t exist, he met with designers and created his own dyes and extruded aluminum so he could realize his dream of a quality retractable sun screen.

In 1995 with everything he needed now in place, Steve took an early retirement package from his employer, American Airlines, and along with his father, Art Mevius, they started PSSC. With just two employees they set out to offer their new product to the people of Las Vegas. In just over 10 years, they now have over 32 employees in their new, 9,000 square foot, state of the art facility and over 300 dealers nationwide sharing their exclusive products. Steve even started a second company called All Seasons Retractable Screens (now run by Art Mevius) which is doing equally as well.

Since its inception, PSSC has added retractable awnings, patio covers and interior shades to its product line and is growing as fast as Las Vegas is. The motto for this company, as Steve always says, is “Quality you can trust with service you can count on!” and with that basic phrase, he has poised himself to be one of the nation’s leaders in Sun Control Products.
